“Want a peanut?”
Pitter patter goes the rain outside my bedroom window. I can’t wait to figure out my Rainy Day Club activities today! Oh, hi! I’m Ava. I started a club called the Rainy Day Club. We do the Rainy Day Club on every rainy day. All my friends (Sam, Claire, Jacob and Alice) all come to the Rainy Day Club. We do fun activities like card games, crafts, eat popcorn and watch a show. But I just can’t think what we are going to do today.
I pulled my blanket up and rolled over on my side, turned on my lamp, grabbed my book and started reading chapter nine.
BOOM! goes the thunder. I jump and hide under my blanket.
I hear the creak of my dad opening my bedroom door. “Rise and shine Ava! Get your clothes on and brush your teeth.” I got out of bed and put on my bright pink glasses, blue jeans and
yellow shirt.
BOOM! goes the thunder again! I whack my head on the wall. “OWEE!” I shout. I really
need to get over my fears of thunder. My dad comes over and puts some ice on my head. My dog Lucy comes running over to hide under my bed and my little brother Henry crawls under the bed just like Lucy.
Feeling brave, I walk down the stairs and see my rainy day special breakfast surprise! It was donuts and chocolate milk! “Maybe thunderstorms aren’t so bad after all,” I think as I wipe frosting from my chin.
I finally finished eating and got on bus thirty-six and sat with my new neighbor Jimmy Maxwell. I walked down to Mr. Mise’s second grade class and sit on my chair. Sam and Claire had already arrived and were busily starting on their morning work. Alice was hanging her backpack on her hook and rain droplets splattered off her coat making the coat cubby floor extra slippery.
“Alice, do you know what today is?” I inquire. “Rainy Day Club!” she beams.
We both giggle and practice our secret Rainy Day Club handshake: Clap, Clap, Hip Bump, Hip Bump, Hop, Hop. “What’s our activity today? asks Alice.
“Obstacle Course!” I declare. To Be Continued...
Ringgg!
Yes! School was over! I pulled on my pink raincoat went get my friends so we could ride the bus home together.
When we made it home we pushed the couch and chairs out of the the living room so we had plenty of space to set up our obstacle course. Sam, Jacob and Claire set out the hola hoops and the tennis ball launcher (Don’t worry, the room had no windows). Me and Alice got the scooter and the table. Jacob was up first and he crossed the finish line with a time of 53 seconds then, it was Claire’s turn and she got 56 seconds then, Sam went next and got 47 seconds and Alice went and got 58 seconds. Finally, it was my turn. I took off going over the hola hoops then, I crawled under the table and hopped on my scooter dodging tennis as I rode through the finish line. “41 seconds!” Jacob shouted. I smiled and high-fived my friends. To end the day we all watched a movie and listened to the rain.
